Award Winner and Description
Hustle Award (Coach DeMarco's Favorite Award)
This award is based on "hustle" points that are compiled in each game during the season. The winner is not selected and has to earn this award throughout the season. Hustling on the court gets us extra possessions and opportunities to score. Players get hustle points for diving on the floor for loose balls, taking charges, sprinting back on defense to make a big play and a for a number of other reasons. Each week we have a Hustle Ball winner, but only one player gets to take home the prestigious Hustle Award
Winner: Cecily Szady (2016) Liz Kirschner (2015) Haley Willis (2014) Sue Rose (2013)
Most Outstanding Player
This award goes to a player that is an outstanding rebounder, passer. scorer, defensive player and overall teammate. Some teams call it the MVP award, which seems to focus on points, but to us you have to do a little bit of everything to be considered OUTSTANDING.
Winner: Kelly Walsh (2016) Molly Eagar (2015) Sam Charette (2014) Cassandra Fibbe (2013)
"Pressure" Defensive Player of the Year
Our team focuses on defense first so the defensive player of the year is an important award. It goes to a player who has the ability to shut down the best player on the other team, plays team defense, and is always trying to get in the right spot to make a play on defense.
Winner: Liz Kirschner (2016) Lauren Flynn (2015) Sue Rose (2014) Haley Willis (2013)
Rebounder of the Year
This award goes to our best rebounder. Every time we get a rebound it limits the amount of shots the other team gets or it gives us another shot on offense. Rebounding is an essential part of the game that is not talked about enough.
Leadership is not something that can be overlooked. Every team needs its players to take on a leadership role in their own way. However, one player usually steps up and goes above and beyond as a leader. This is a special award named after General Patton and will always go to a player that exemplifies a number of leadership qualities, including the ability to set a positive example for teammates.
Winner: Kristina Renaud and Cassidy Cring (2016) Julia Fibbe and Katie Domoracki (2015) Leslie Bynum (2014) Taylor Morong (2013)
The sharpshooter award goes to the team's most prolific shooter on the season. Shooting and 3-point shooting is something we work on everyday in practice and take very seriously. We believe the sharpshooter has to be able to hit clutch shots in the heat of the game or at a crucial part of the game. The sharpshooter is the person we rely on to make those big shots consistently throughout the season.
As a team, we talk about the importance of getting better every day. This award goes to a player that puts in the time to get better and improves throughout the course of the season. It is an important award, because any player that wins this award shows that hard work and determination pay off and make you a better player.
