Every week at Rising Stars Camp we try to find new ways to teach skills. Typically, we do this by breaking each skill down piece by piece into individual drills. This is never an easy task since all the individual pieces build up to the final product and it is important for players to perfect each skill along the way. For example, we are working a lot on shooting technique. First, we work on B.E.E.F. with one hand (balance (stance), eye contact, elbow in, and follow through). Next, we work putting our "balance" hand on the ball, but making sure it doesn't interfere with our shooting hand. We still want players to use one hand and act as the other hand isn't there, except to balance the ball when we catch a pass. Then, we work on proper shooting footwork when we catch a pass and step in to shoot. Finally, we try to put this all together for the players. We have individual drills to teach each of the FUNdamental aspects of shooting and also do this for defense, dribbling, passing, etc...Our goal is always to get the players better each week.
Below are videos and pictures of a few of the drills that we incorporated this week, along with our competitions and games.
