Rising Stars receive one on one attention from our current players, former players, and our coaching staff. This is something that separates us from other camps. Also, one of our former players, Sam Charette, currently plays and starts at Endicott College. She brings a wealth of knowledge and college experience to our camp. In addition, former players Suz Rose and Catherine Ecker are assisting at camp. They shared a shooting drill with our campers today that we use in our practices. Also, in our Beat the Pro competition they were the legends that campers competed against. Our "Legends" graduated in 2014 and were members of our back to back state tournament teams. In their senior year, we made it to the semi-finals before losing a tough game. They are great players and even better role models for our Rising Stars.
As always, we began camp with our FUNdamentals stations to teach players the necessary skills they will need to become better basketball players. Skills include, but are not limited to, form shooting, dribbling, triple threat, passing, defense, and ways to communicate with teammates.
During our first round of stations, players learned how to shoot with proper form, dribble with two basketballs (so they can use their left or right hands in games), pass out of triple threat, and box out. The second round of stations included defense, layups, Mikan Drill, and one-ball dribbling,
2-ball dribbling and 1-ball advanced dribbling
Notice Lauren holding up numbers so the players have to keep their eyes up while they do our two-ball piston drill. Very impressive. Both Lauren and Jacqueline are former Rising Stars!
In the second video, our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade campers are doing advanced two-ball dribbling. Current players Jacqueline Fibbe and Lauren Flynn assisted them and helped them to become advanced dribblers!
The 2nd video below will show campers learning to shoot with their left and right hand during a modified version of the Mikan Drill. Assistant Coach Rich DeMarco is seen showing a Rising Star how to use their left hand.
In the 2nd video you will see our current players teaching the Rising Stars how to close out on a shooter with proper technique. This is a skill that we started teaching at camp last year because most players did not understand how to close out on a shooter.
We played two games of knockout at camp today. Below you will see two videos. The first video is Alexis Donovan winning the shooting competition against the other Rising Stars. The second video shows our past, present, and future players competing in a game of knockout.
