Head Coach Jon is entering his 5th season as Generals Head Coach. Last year, the General came up one game short of state tournament birth. They return all but two players for the 2016-2017 season.
The Generals persevered through a rebuilding year during the 2014-2015 season. They have a young, but battle tested team returning next year. Three freshman, four sophomores, and two juniors all played significant minutes this year, while gaining invaluable experience in the process. The Generals look to build on their successes from this year as they continue improving next season.
In his first two years Jon compiled a 29-13 record and two MIAA State Tournament births (12-13 and 13-14). This season, his team defeated Stoneham (58-53) in the 1st round of the 2013-2014 MIAA State Tournament and Dracut (72-42) in the North Quarterfinals before losing in the Semi-Final Round. The Generals PRESSURE defensive system caused an astounding 27 turnovers per game and held opponents to 40 points per game. Offensively, the team hit over 100 3-pointers on the season, including a school record 16 3-pointers on senior night (2/14/14) against Saugus. As a team, they averaged 51 points per game and scored over 70 points twice during the season, including 81 points on senior night. In his first two seasons, the Generals were able to defeat each team in the league at least once.
In his 1st season, he led the Generals to a 12-6 regular season record and the first MIAA State Tournament birth since 2005. Jon was selected as Cape Ann Large Coach of the Year and Salem News Coach of the Year in only his first season as head coach. This past season, the team had one of the top defenses in the CAL pressuring opponents into 20 turnovers per game. The Generals defense was one of the stingiest in the league giving up only 39 points per game and holding several opponents under 30 points. Opponents that come to play Hamilton-Wenham know they can expect 32 minutes of their signature pressure defense and an attacking style offense. As a team, the Generals hit nearly 100 3-pointers on the season and averaged just under 50 points per game.
Prior to coaching at Hamilton-Wenham, Jon coached both boys and girls basketball at Revere High School and most recently coached girls basketball at Lynnfield High School. He was also the offensive coordinator for the Lynnfield High School Football team and helped lead them to a CAL title and Super Bowl Birth in 2012.
An Alumni of Merrimack College, Jon played football for four years as a wide receiver. In 2005, he graduated with a BA in History and a minor in Education. Jon is currently a history teacher at Revere High School. He has a master's from Gordon College, CAGS from the University of New England and is currently attending Northeastern University for a Doctoral Degree in Organizational Leadership.
